Film Review: Trick ‘r Treat (4 Deliciously Dark Halloween Shorts)

If like me, you intend to spend Halloween curled up on the couch with a stack of horror films, I’d like to recommend Trick ‘r Treat, a collection of four/5 short tales of horror set on the scariest (and my favourite) night of the year. This is sure to put you in the mood for this fun and scary holiday.

The stories are set in the same little town with characters crossing over into each tale. The theme: obey the traditions of Halloween or pay the price.

Anna Paquin from True Blood plays an innocent virgin.  Her sister and friends are shopping for sexy Halloween outfits and urge her to choose her first, mocking her inexperience. Dressed as Little Red Riding Hood, she walks through town alone, unaware of being followed.

Then we have the creepy school principal who likes to poison kids who break jack-o-lanterns. Next up is a trip to an abandoned quarry where a bus load of kids drowned some years back.  The children go there this Halloween night to leave offerings in the form of lanterns, but they get more than they bargained for.  And lastly, we find out what happens to grumpy old men who don’t participate in the fun of Halloween.

The acting and cinematography were impressive. As a lover of Samhain/All Hallow’s Eve/Halloween, I enjoyed these short films.  The gorgeous costumes, Halloween spirit, ghosts, spooky mist and town carnival were right up my alley.  These four tales (or 5 if you count the opening 5 minutes) warn of punishment for those who do not respect the traditions of Halloween.  Have fun with this black comedy.

Happy Halloween

Meet Alex & Tristan, Modern Star-Crossed Lovers of the Supernatural Variety.

It’s good to be alive…when you’re dead!

I released an ebook last November called Night Sighs, a paranormal romance for an adult audience. It was my first venture into self-publishing and I didn’t have much of a clue about book promotion, blog tours and marketing.  I was an idiot.  So, I’m doing a short, one week promo coming up to Halloween to give rock star vampire, Tristan and his girlfriend, Alex, the attention they deserve.

October 24/Today: I’ll be participating in the Halloween Spooktacular at Book Lover’s Hideaway where I’ll be talking about Halloween movies.                                                  October 25: My best friend, Laura, a fellow Corkonian is allowing me to ramble on about how Bruce Springsteen’s Paris, 1985 performance of “Because the Night” led me to writing “The Dead Beats”, the first short story in the Night Sighs collection at her blog On the Beat.                                                                                                                                              October 26: Laura from Emerald Musings interviews me as well as sharing her thoughts on Night Sighs, and Kitt Crescendo of The Inner Wild Kat will be reviewing.                                                                                                                               October 27: Nix from Scorching Book Reviews will be posting a review and a short excerpt.                                                                                                                                      October 28: Beverly from The Wormhole is interviewing me.                                     October 29: Sharonda from Salacious Reads is featuring an excerpt.                      October 30: I have a guest spot over at Jody’s Words of Wisdom… from the Scarf Princess.

Earlier in the month, I wrote a short guest post about the members of the vampire band, The Dead Beats over at Reading Between the Wines Book Club.

Night Sighs

It’s good to be alive…when you’re dead!

Meet Alex & Tristan, modern star-crossed lovers of the supernatural variety.
Alex is running-on-empty, one year on from the death of her fiancé, and the only thing that keeps her going is her romance with the young vampire Tristan. Tristan, meanwhile has a serious obsession with Bruce Springsteen, and is battling a ‘can’t live without you’ sort of love for Alex. He’s trying to persuade her to come over to the dark side, but so far she’s resisting his efforts.

So come and sing along to Tristan’s band, The Dead Beats, the hottest group in London right now, and walk with Alex as she teeters between this life and the next.  Because when you’re around Tristan, you’ll see, how much fun it is to be alive when you’re dead….

Night Sighs is an adult paranormal romance, following the relationship & adventures of Tristan & Alex through Five Short Stories: The Dead Beats, The Ancients, Until My Body Is Dust, Bourbon & Jazz and West of Forever.

Check it out on Amazon HERE and Goodreads

but remember, Night Sighs is for adult eyes only 😉

I fell so in love with Alex and Tristan that I had to write a follow up novel. I’m currently working on completing Night Whispers. All going well, it should be out next March.
