Thank Crunchie it’s Friday – Let’s play some music

The past four weeks have been hectic with the day job. I haven’t done any writing (apart from blogging) or marketing, or anything of the sort the past week as a result – well that, and also I’m heavily involved in The Mortal Instruments series and spending every free minute I have reading those books. To ease me, and hopefully you, into the weekend, I’ve chosen some music (the first two songs have something of a dreamy quality to them) that I’ve been playing daily this past week. #TGIF

Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” has been in my head all week, the Cedric Garvais remix rather than the slow version (if you want to hear that even more haunting version you can listen Here on YouTube). I adore Lana’s voice and music. Her cinematic videos are also great.

“Fade Into You” from Nashville sung by Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio. This song made a big impression on me when I first heard it watching a Nashville episode. It’s warm and romantic and almost sultry. The lyrics are like a poem

And finally the last few minutes of the “Riff Off” scene from Pitch Perfect – one of my new favourite films, a perfect movie to watch on a Friday night. And it’s actually on Sky Premier this evening at 8.00pm!

Now, I’m off to get a Crunchie bar and some rosé. Happy Friday the 13th.

  1. Fade Into You is one of the most romantic songs I’ve heard in a long time. LOVE.

I love the song Summertime Sadness. Emma, glad to hear you’re deep into The Mortal Instruments Series. Love, loved, LOVED that! Happy reading and happy Friday the 13th! 🙂

It’s being played non-stop over here at the moment. I LOVE The Mortal Instruments. It’s so rare these days to find a series that sweeps me off my feet. Hope you had a good Friday the 13th and nothing too spooky happened.

Love Fade Into You, those two are great as a duo, I think my fave by them is If I Didn’t Know Better (I think that’s what it’s called) funnily enough it turned out to be a cover of The Civil Wars and I love those guys!

  4. Love all those songs! I think I’ve watched Pitch Perfect like 20 times in the last few months, in addition to seeing it when it came out. It was such a great movie and I just love the music! They all have such awesome voices. Sometimes I just skip to the songs (I recorded the movie 🙂 ) Enjoy Mortal Instruments! One of my fave series of all time. The prequel series is just as good, so make sure to read that too! I wasn’t that fond of the movie version, but I rarely am when I really love the books. Have a great weekend!

I do the exact same thing when I watch Pitch Perfect – fast forward to the singing scenes. I’m going to pick up The Infernal Devices as soon as I finish the 5 books in The Mortal Instruments series. Hopefully they’ll keep me going until next May when book 6 comes out, though I don’t know how I’ll cope with no more no Jace, Clary, Alec, Isabelle and Magnus! Yeah, the film wasn’t great, mostly down to some terrible dialogue, but I still enjoyed it. Thanks, L.J. Enjoy your weekend.

  5. Like LJ, I love all these songs…and you know you’ve got a fellow Pitch Perfect person in me. Thanks for sharing. I’m kind of bummed that I read they’ve delayed production on the next Mortal Instruments movie. 😦

  6. Amanda says:

I am in love with Lana Del Rey’s voice! It has such a dreamy, almost hypnotic quality to it. Have you heard the song she did for The Great Gatsby soundtrack? I think it’s called Young and Beautiful. It gives me chills!

    • Emma says:

Yes, you’re so right, her voice does have a hypnotic quality. I watched The Great Gatsby at the cinema but I can’t remember her song. I’ll check it out now. Thanks.

  7. Shannon says:

I love Fade into You–thanks for reminding me I need to buy some Nashville tracks off iTunes! I really want to see Pitch Perfect now.

  8. Shah Wharton says:

Oh and oh! New music and a movie. I’m off to purchase, to grab some nosh and a glass of the red stuff. Enjoy your Rose! : D X

  9. Music threads! I love music threads! Very nice songs, especially ‘Fade Into You’, very, very nice.
Still not sure how I haven’t rented Pitch Perfect, but I’m sure I’ll get around to it.

  10. Love Summertime Sadness. I’ve heard it a lot this past week. But then, I love Lana del Rey. 🙂

    • Emma says:

And apparently the original version was released more than a year ago but it never made the radio, at least over here. I love her stuff. Thanks for visiting, Sandra. 🙂

Mmm, could do with a crunchie bar myself…. (just revisiting some older posts that I missed from my favourite bloggers!)
