I am currently spoiled for choice when it comes to supernatural shows. The days may be shorter, the nights colder and longer, but we’ve got plenty of good company and entertainment options on our TV screens right now.
The Originals
I’m loving it! The opening scene which showed The Original vampires arriving on a boat into New Orleans a few hundred years ago told me I was going to adore watching Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah settle down once again on the shores of the Mississippi. While poor Elijah (played by the always lovely Daniel Gillies) ended up with a dagger in his heart almost as soon as he arrived back in the city, thankfully, he’s been out of the coffin the past couple of episodes. I’m looking forward to the showdown between King of the City, Marcel, and the spoiled brat Klaus. Rebekah is her usual bitchy but charming self and keeps things lighthearted.
The Vampire Diaries
I’m getting to the stage where I couldn’t care less if I ever saw another episode of this show. There was a time only a couple of years ago that I’d squeal with excitement every week as a new episode aired. Now, I can barely muster up enough enthusiasm to tune in. Katherine is probably the only reason I’m still watching. She makes me laugh. And Silas did elicit a chuckle from me recently with his knock knock joke. 🙂
Silas: “Knock Knock.” “Who’s there?” “The Mayor.” “The Mayor who?” “No one…I killed the Mayor.” Okay, you probably had to be there, but it was funny.
The Walking Dead
As long as cross-bow champion Daryl Dixon remains in this show, I will be a loyal viewer. The prison setting is becoming a little claustrophobic at this stage, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed it will be overrun by a zombie horde or burnt to the ground, so our band of survivors can move on to their next adventure. The song that was in the last episode gave me chills. Check out “Oats in the Water” by Ben Howard.
Haven
I came to this show quite late, but really got into it last year. Last season ended with our heroine Audrey inside the barn. At the new season’s beginning, the troubles in Haven were worsening and the townsfolk could only wonder if Audrey was still alive. Turns out, unsurprisingly, that Audrey was very much alive, though she now had the personality of Lexie, a bartender who knew nothing of Haven. Why it took four episodes for the writers of Haven to get Lexie out of the bar and back into our favourite town in Maine, I don’t know. For a TV show where each season only has 13 episodes, that seemed stupid to me. Once Lexie/Audrey was back in the coastal town of Haven, the action, mercifully, picked up. The Nova Scotia landscape always stuns me. It’s beautiful. Hope to visit some day.
American Horror Story: Coven
At first this series seemed lighter in tone than the disturbing nature of the previous two seasons. The first season remains my favourite, probably because I adore haunted house stories. Then we got to an episode in Coven where a mother is having sex with her teenage son and a teenage girl decides to lose her virginity to a half man/half beast. Lovely. I shouldn’t have been surprised really. The makers of American Horror Story like to shock.
Dracula
Vampires and Jonathan Rhys Meyers? I was all in when I first heard about this months and months ago. Then the first episode aired here on Halloween night and I was left feeling somewhat blah for lack of a better word. Is that it? I had to convince myself to watch the following episode. Was it better? Yes, but still not very exciting. The costumes are gorgeous, the Victorian setting of England is quite well done, but there’s no fire or heart. I’m hanging in there though, if only for Johnny. Did you know that Jonathan is from the same city in Ireland where I live, Cork? There’s a bit of useless trivia for ya.

I’m not watching any of these except Dracula. Hubby watches The Walking Dead, but I just don’t like zombies that much. They totally gross me out. And I agree about The Vampire Dairies. I think I stopped liking it when Elena was turned. I feel like it went downhill after that.
About Dracula. I feel the same way you do. I was so excited about this show, but it’s falling flat for me. I’m going to stick it out a little longer and see if it picks up a bit.
The Walking Dead is really gory. I have to look away a lot of the time. 🙂 But I love shows and books that deal with how people get by in a post-apocalyptic world.
I think so too about The Vampire Diaries. Season 3 was the last good season.
I’ll stick with Dracula for time being. It did pick up a bit after the first episode.
I watch The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, but I haven’t given Dracula a go yet. I am a JRM fan and have been since watching him on The Tudors :).

Because I’m so into “Witches of East End” my friend thought I might like “Coven”, but then she came back and said that I would find it too dark and disturbing. Now I’m 100 percent sure she’s right about that.
Shannon, I haven’t seen “Witches of East End” yet, but I’m going to sit down soon and see what it’s like for myself.
I quit watching VD last season. i just couldn’t take Elena’s whining anymore. I don’t regret it, nor miss it. I live for The Walking Dead! I love the tension they always seem to bring every single week. While I love witches, American Horror Story is just odd to me this season, not scary as the others were. I still love the passion of the characters though. Other great shows I watch are: Witches Of East End (LOVE this show – reminds me of Charmed), Sons Of Anarchy (Because I’m addicted to the badassness of this show, and have been since it began), Blacklist (James Spader as a Hannibal Lecter without the appetite character had me at his first witty line), Criminal Minds (always a classic show – been a loyal fan since it began so many years ago), Hostages (not bad – has its ups and downs. I think I just love Dylan McDermott too much to let it die). I could go on, I watch so many more, but I’m looking at this now and realizing why I don’t get any writing done! LOL
Wow. That is a busy TV schedule. I’m very impressed. 🙂 Okay, that’s another vote for “Witches of East End” – definitely need to sit down and tune in. I’m ashamed to say I have yet to watch Sons of Anarchy. I’ve heard good things about Blacklist and if James Spader is in it, I’d definitely be interested. I gave up on Criminal Minds a few years ago, it just got way too violent and disturbing I thought.
What are we both like when it comes to working on our WIPs?!
I’m starting to enjoy Haven. Haven’t seen much of it (caught up with it late too), but I’ve been setting the DVR. I wanted to check out Dracula put missed the debut. My new fave supernatural show is Sleepy Hollow! Still doesn’t surpass Once Upon a Time for me, but it’s inching up to a close second 🙂 Love Ichabod!!!
The characters are what make Haven. I think Emily Rose who plays Audrey and Lexie and Sarah and all her incarnations is a great actress. I love Duke too. To think he featured in the very first 2 episodes of Buffy way back in the 90’s.
I caught the first two episode of Sleepy Hollow, really liked it and promptly forgot it was on the following week! Love Ichabod too!
I have yet to start watching The Originals but I am with you on Vampire Diaries! I really couldn’t care less at the moment. I love Haven and I am glad it’s back! I’ve also been considering watching Dracula. Great round up Emma. 🙂

I have to catch up on all of these, except for TVD and The Walking Dead. This may be the best season of TWD so far IMO. And the music selections are so good!
I laughed at Silas’ Knock Knock joke BTW. I thought it was funny too. TVD is surprising me this year. I thought for sure when my boy Klaus left, along with the other Originals, the show was going to suffer. I really like the college storyline. It’s fresh, getting them away from Mystic Falls.
When I watch The Walking Dead I always wonder how I’d cope under such circumstances. I like to think that there comes a point where I’d no longer be afraid of the zombies and just get on with dealing with them.
The college backdrop is definitely a plus on this season of The Vampire Diaries.
I actually laughed out loud myself over Silas’ knock knock joke. I still love the Vampire Diaries, but for me the painful character is Bonnie. I thought it would end with her death, but unfortunately… It needs… something, though. Stefan needs to move on and find a girlfriend and end the love triangle or something.
I didn’t know if I’d enjoy the Originals but now I’m watching it with interest. I love Rebekah and of course need to watch to see what this possible demon baby is going to look like.
Good, it wasn’t just me then giggling at his Knock Knock tale. I think it was just the look on Damon’s face that sent me over the edge. You can tell Paul Wesley is having a ball playing Silas. Bonnie has nothing to do but follow Jeremy around. I hate to say it but it seems a bit pathetic. She’s a powerful witch. I want to see her kicking some ass.
Oh, yes will this demon baby have fangs I wonder? 🙂
Thank god for DVR, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to watch any show. As for your list I just can’t give up on the bat shit craziness of ‘American Horror Story’, it’s just too crazy to miss. Otherwise it sounds like you watch enough T.V. without me adding to your list of must see T.V., I have hours and hours of shows to catch up on. But ‘The Blacklist’ is amazing!

Unfortunately, I don’t watch many of these shows. My hubby does not care for them, so the only time I can watch is when he isn’t around. I still like checking them all out. Thanks Emma.

I’m watching Dracula and love Jonathan Ryes Myers. I think it’s a very exciting version and adore the elaborate presentation. I’m actually not a big vampire story fan but this production is visually such a feast. I won’t miss it. But Coven at American Horror Story is fading my interest now.
Paula, I have only seen 2 episodes of Dracula, so I probably haven’t given it a proper chance yet, but I definitely agree that it is a visual feast.
Hi Emma having been away from England for a while I set the TV system for covering a number of programme’s. Like you my Eyes light up when seeing that a Dracula series was to be on and advertised some time ago, every time saying “I want to watch that” at the same time giving Daggers at hubby. I won on this as the whole series is booked for taping. I am so looking forward so I do hope the battle was worth it :)) Being a big paranormal fan.
The vampire stories and the walking dead have not been for me this time… Films like Emily Rose :)) give me any time. What is Coven? I have only read several versions so is the programme worth it for me !! I don’t like programmes ruining a good book best wishes Debs

The Exorcism of Emily Rose? I am never watching that again, as I think I have stated profusely on this blog. Films about possession just freak me out and are really the only kind of horror movies that terrify me these days.
Coven is the third series of the TV show American Horror Story. It’s about witches in New Orleans but it’s very weird, as is the norm with American Horror Story.
