Song of the Summer: Waves

Every summer I’m lucky to find a new song that will be in my playlist forever. This summer it’s Mr. Probz’s “Waves”. The remix is the one I fell in love with, but I went looking for the original and it’s beautiful.

I’ve pasted both videos from YouTube below.

There’s a summery feel of sunshine, romance and melancholy. Yes, I realise melancholy and summer shouldn’t go together, but somehow they do. Maybe because summer is so fleeting.

Here’s the hypnotic version that pulled me in. And the guy in the video is quite nice to look at.

Here’s the quieter track.

What are you listening to this summer?

    Nice song.
I do agree with you about the melancholy of summer. It’s so fleeting. It’s been cooler in my area than it should be so there’s almost a hint of fall in the air right now, which brings a certain sadness. Fortunately, warmer temps are around the bend.
I’ve got a long play list that I have going constantly at work and in my car. Right now I’m partial to Josh Ritter, Gordon Lightfoot and Passenger. On a hot summer day poolside, I love a little reggae.

Hi Mae. Sorry for the late reply. We had a long weekend in Ireland and time kind of ran away from me.
I remember you like fall though, don’t you? Especially with Halloween coming up. I hadn’t heard of Gordon Lightfoot so I’ve opened up another browser tab and am listening to “If You Could Read My Mind”. The only Passenger song I know is “Let Her Go”.

  2. I love the quieter version of this song. I usually don’t like melancholy music, but I think this guy’s voice is awesome.

  3. Nice song and LOL @ the guy in the vid not being bad to look it. That always helps. Thanks for sharing!

I’m listening to 3 songs at the mo, they mightn’t be very Summer-y but I like them!
George Ezra – Budapest….I love his voice!

Cheryl Cole – Crazy Stupid Love…..Normally not a great fan of hers but I like the beat!

Finally, One Republic – Love Runs Out……..Very Dramatic & Fab!!! 🙂 Hope you like!

I wouldn’t have matched Ezra’s voice to the guy in the video. It’s an unusual song. I like it, and the One Republic track, but I find Cheryl’s new song annoying. She has great timing, marrying, releasing new song and X- Factor all at the same time. 😉

Indeed she does! Apparently Kylie recorded the song first and wanted it on her album but the producers didn’t give it to her and now that Cheryl has a hit with it, she’s not a happy bunny apparently!!! 🙂 I like the other 2 though. Cheryl’s song would be my least favourite out of the 3! 😀

That was a fast reply. Did your phone beep or something? 😉 Kylie is better off without it methinks.

I’m so out of touch. I don’t know most of these artists but the music is fab! I like the first version. Feels more like me and where I’m at now. I understand the melancholy. Summer ir here, then it’s gone. I’m listening to the tune again as I reply. Waiting for it to end before I hit reply! LOL

  6. Yeah, a music post. I love music. Nice song. I prefer the second version for some reason, very slow and serene.

Very nice. I loved the first one, but the second one is very calming. I think summertime can be a melancholy time of year, especially near the end. I have always loved to sit “on the dock of the bay and watch the tide roll away”. I love to watch the water and listen to the waves breaking on the beach. I become very pensive and let my mind drift to wherever it wants to go. Fantastic post. ^_^

Calming is the right word. It’s a peaceful track but I like the sad romance of the dancier version. Now I’m humming “sittin on the dock of the bay…” to myself. 🙂

  8. Good choice, Emma. It’s one of my favourites, too. Love the remix but prefer the original. Another, which I see Laura mentioned and added here, is one I listen to every single day and that is Love Runs Out by One Republic. In love with it at the moment. 🙂 Have a super week ahead. xxx

Sandra, can I follow your new site by email? When I was on last time, I can’t remember if I found it.
One Republic are back in a big way. Enjoy your weekend, x

PS I forgot this song which is this year’s main Summer song for me! 🙂

  10. I love this song! You got it exactly right: It sounds like sunshine! I fell in love with the remix too, but I’ll listen to the original since you so recommend it!
You are also completely right about it being hypnotic: definitely the word for it. Definitely one of my absolute favorite summer songs.

  11. Am I Wrong by Nico and Vinz is another favorite of mine this summer.
