Friday Music – The Hanging Tree & more

These songs have been stuck in my head all week, so I thought I’d be kind and share them with you. 🙂

“The Hanging Tree” – performed by Jennifer Lawrence. When this haunting song played in the cinema last weekend during The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One, I got goosebumps. The scene was a powerful one and this music definitely stirred the emotions. When other voices join in at 1.46 – I get shivers.

“Like I Can” – Sam Smith. I love every song this young man has released. I’ll be picking up his album for Christmas.

“Something New” – Girls Aloud. The fun, upbeat tempo makes me want to dance every time I hear it.

What have you been listening to this week?

  1. I’ve been listening to all kinds of Christmas music. It’s my thing this time of year. 🙂

  2. I’ve been obsessed with The Hanging Tree ever since I saw Mockingjay! So beautiful and haunting. 🙂

  3. I just saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One over the weekend, so I’m so on the same page as you with regards to The Hanging Tree goosebumps.

I’m having a mini-Christmas dinner with my mum (who will be over from Spain) and sisters on Monday and I’ve made a Christmas playlist. It’s hard fro me to choose up-tempo music usually though; I seem to collect more folky melancholy tunes for some reason. They must suit my psyche more. I’ve added tunes I’m not keen on just to lift it a bit, lol. Which is probably why I LOVE the first one, liked the second one (mostly for his outstanding voice) and feel blah about Girls Aloud in general. 🙂

The movie itself was stunning, as I’ve found them all to be in this series. But this one just had that more adult, dark vibe I love and swept me up, not least of all in the scene the tune represents. Awesome choice!

    PS: Loving the snow! 🙂

Have a fabulous mini Christmas dinner with your family, Shah.
I adore melancholy music too. What does that say about us I wonder? 🙂
I’ve always loved Girls Aloud since they released “Sound of the Underground” 12 years ago. They’re upbeat and fun and sometimes I need a break from the sad stuff.
I thought the film was stunning too, very dark but appropriate given the subject matter.

I love Sam Smith and Hanging Tree songs! I might get Sam Smith’s album from Santa I don’t know! I never heard of that girl’s aloud song, it’s really catchy!! 🙂 I like Bruno Mars’ new one too, uptown funk! 🙂 I’m loving the snow on your page too, very Christmassy! 😀

I think you should definitely ask Santa for Sam’s album. I’ll be doing the same. I hope you’re on his good list though! Liking Bruno Mars’ new one too. That Girls Aloud song was released for their 10 year reunion a couple of years ago. I love it.
I had nothing to do with this snow appearing, but I’m not complaining.

I have listened to the radio, as I have been in the car a lot. We have a new rock station that plays all the GOOD ones. LOL I love to sing along, especially when I am alone in the car. Not so much when others are there. I don’t want to hurt their ears. LOL
