TV Time: The Vampire Diaries: Elijah & Elena Sitting in a Tree

Not Really but a Girl can Dream Right?

I’m tired of Delena, and even more bored of Stelena, odd because I used to be a big fan of the latter.  Nowadays I’m all about Original Vampire Elijah, played by New Zealander Daniel Gillies.  In real life he’s happily married to Rachael Leigh Cook of She’s All That fame, but in the tv show, Elijah is footloose and fancy-free, as they say.

When Elijah first appeared in season 2 and sniffed Elena to make sure she was human, I sat up and took immediate notice.  Later on in that season, when Elena pulled the dagger from his heart and they found a way to trust one another, I was paying even keener attention.  When Elijah ripped the heart out of Klaus’ werewolf in season 3 and asked his traitorous brother: “So Niklaus, what have I missed?” I clapped.  Yeah, I said it.  I actually found myself clapping.  That was it for any romantic feelings I had for the Salvatore brothers.

Elijah is a noble man, as Elena herself once said.  We’ve never seen him drink blood from a human.  He kills werewolves but he is not sadistic and evil the way Klaus is.  He is honourable and decent for the most part, which is why the audience was shocked when he left Elena trapped underground with his murderous sister Rebekah.  To put this in perspective it’s no worse than what Elena did to him, allying herself with his mother to aid his death.  This act of betrayal earned Elena Elijah’s wrath, but his remorse for this action was evident in the letter of apology he left her.

I would like a romance to develop between these two but I don’t see it happening.  Despite the violence, drinking and mayhem we see week after week on the show, The Vampire Diaries has a young audience and a relationship between Elena and a much older man would probably be frowned upon.  Now if they ever made an adult spin off based on The Originals, maybe we would get to see something happen.

I’ve missed Elijah on the show these past few weeks. Let’s hope he comes back to Mystic Falls soon!!

So, quick question. We have Delena and Stelena, what the heck do we call Elijah and Elena?

LOL, Emma, You crack me up. I’ve been drooling over Elijah as well, and the incessant love triangle does get a bit boring, but last night when (Spoilers follow so don’t read if you haven’t seen the show) Daimon was hallucinating Elena and she let him drink for her, I sighed. I’ve always wanted them together. I don’t know why, but there you go.

That being said, I would much prefer Elijah to Stephan these days. He is so pouty it’s pathetic.

As far as the name goes, How ’bout Elijelena?! Or Elijena. Horrible name, but it makes me laugh.

    • Emma says:

      Thanks Christie 🙂
You’re not alone on the Delena front. So many fans want Damon and Elena to get together but I see them more as sparring buddies.
Elijena, ha ha, what a mouthful.

Elijah is rather yummy:) Love the post:)

  3. I have totally been missing the new season. (Only on pay tv) Reading this I want it now. Hehe

  4. I confess, I’ve never seen the Vampire Diaries (lately I’ve been into zombies). But the way you describe it makes it sound quite compelling.and interesting. Good post, Emma. 🙂

    • Emma says:

      Thanks Roy.
Give it a go if you have a free hour. It’s quite entertaining. I’m into zombies right now thanks to The Walking Dead 🙂

I loved Elijah since I saw him in first episode! Yay I think their name should be Elenjah!! 😀 I’m way behind in episodes but lookin forward to watching all this action!!

  7. I think Elijah is definitely hot. But I have a question. Do you like his hair better the way it used to be or the way it is now? I can’t decided. LOL

  8. Shannon says:

I have been missing Elijah, too! And, excuse me, but MUCH older? What?? 😀 Actually, Daniel Gillies himself said that “old” on the CW is thirty, so I see your point. I am way over Stefan and Elena. Stefan totally blew it when he turned into a cold psychopath, decapitating women. Bring back Elijah!

    • Emma says:

Ha ha, only in relation to 18 year Elena!! It’s funny when I watch these shows I always feel closer to what’s going on with the teens when in reality I am in the same age bracket as the adults in the show 🙂
Yes how can Elena ever forgive Stefan when he was such a psycho. I’m with you all the way. Bring back Elijah!!!!

  9. Elijah is possible one of the best characters on the show! I’ve missed him as well! Elenjah maybe? I wish we could see them date too. Of course, if I have to choose a Salvatore, I’m rooting for Damon. At least he isn’t afraid to be a bad boy. 😛

    • Emma says:

I agree about Elijah being one the best characters. The actor who plays him is working on another tv show right now so maybe that’s why he’s not on Vampire Diaries much. And Damon is a totally gorgeous bad boy, yum! 🙂

Oohh! Love this post, its all so true! (Is he really from NZ? That practically makes him my cousin (more or less.)). Plus he’s married to Rachel Leigh Cook? Who’d have thunk it?

I would like something to happen with them, but I think you’re right; it would be very dark. Saying that, what the heck isn’t dark about this show anymore? Elijah and Elena-shit, they’re name combined just makes one of their names…awks.

    • Emma says:

I think he’s Canadian born but raised in NZ so you are practically neighbours 🙂
I youtubed him recently and one of the first videos in the search was an inteview of him on the red carpet with his wife. They looked so cute together.

You’re right, the show is pretty dark these days. Maybe we should just call them Esquared!
