Coffee Break Read: Tourmentin by Michelle Cornwell-Jordan

Tourmentin is a Gothic love story set in New Orleans.

An apparently haunted hotel, reincarnation and soulmates – this story is right up my alley. Tourmentin, the story of a great love that crosses lifetimes, has an old world charm to it. I enjoyed the descriptions of the hotel and the French Quarter in New Orleans. A lovely story. This is a fast read, perfect to fit in over a coffee break, well – tea for me.

 ???????????????????????????????

Emile and Serafine loved at first sight believing in their fairytale ending. But fate and darkness from Emile’s past separate the lovers, with Emile being trapped in an alternate time, imprisoned in the 1800’s by his former lover the sultry Isadora. Isadora is convinced that she and Emile belong together and also as the old saying goes… believes if she cannot have Emile, then no one can.

Time moves forward and Emile’s beloved Serafine dies, but she promises to find her true love again. Love’s promise is realized, when Serafine is reborn into the modern age and has returned to the French Quarter and to the very hotel where her Emile still remains frozen in time.

The lovers reunite, only to face an evil which vows to destroy them once and for all.

Vampire Music Videos/Songs

I racked my brains trying to think of songs and music videos that reminded me of vampires. Off I went to YouTube where I knew I was pretty much guaranteed to find thousands of possibilities in the realm of fan-made videos. I’ve chosen  a few videos/songs below that bring these creatures of the night to mind.

The below video is for Blood Ties.  This Canadian series had a few great characters, but the terrible special effects ruined any chance of it being taken seriously. “I’m Sorry” is really vampirey. Thank you, Roxette for this deliciously moody song (I posted this song in my Tegan’s Magic review last week). Around the 1.03 mark, the vampire-esque sound comes through.

“Cry Little Sister” from The Lost Boys. Possibly my favourite vampire film ever.

“Self Fulfilling Prophecy” from the German vampire flick, We Are the Night/Wir Sind die Nacht. I reviewed this film last year. The song is pretty haunting.

“Lucky” – Bif Naked. Sultry & melancholy. I first heard it on Buffy. The video to this is wicked.

Eyes on Fire – Blue Foundation. I first noticed it when watching Twilight. It’s now one of my favourite songs. Here’s a Vampire Diaries fan video. The lyrics are cool.

Have a great weekend and if you can think of any songs or music videos that remind you of vampires, leave a link in the comments and I’ll check them out. x
