Time for a fun vampire post. Love or loathe these creatures of the night, there’s no getting away from them these days.
Spike – Bloody hell, we love him. Well, at least I do. This guy’s my absolute favourite vampire ever. He roared into town and my heart in Season 2 of Buffy in one of the best episodes, “School Hard”. Bleached blond, bad boy attitude, working a punk rock star look and English accent, Spike gave Angel a run for his money as the main vampire on campus.

Angel – He said Buffy was the only woman he ever loved – and then he fell in love with Cordelia. Er – okay. I really liked Angel for the first couple of seasons, and after that – not so much.
Edward Cullen– Those of you with sparkly skin prejudices, back away, now. Ed’s my boy, and I was deeply in love with him when I read Twilight back in 2008. He and Forks got me through a bad time, and I will forever be grateful to Stephenie Meyer for introducing me to the Cullens.
Rosalie Cullen– Ice queen extraordinaire and cool chick in both the Twilight books and films. She can hold her own. I particularly admire how she scared the crap out of her attackers prior to killing them. “I was a little theatrical back then.” You go, girl!
Caroline Forbes – (Vampire Diaries)She was a whiny, shallow, annoying human. But she rocks as a vampire. When things get a tad dreary and serious in Mystical Falls, Caroline’s delightful bubbliness (is this a real word??) tends to make things lighter and more fun for the viewers.

Rebekah Mikaelson – She may be 1000 years old, but she’s still learning how to live in this modern era, thanks to her brother keeping her in box for most of the 20th century. Rebekah has a Cordelia Chase way about her. She says what she feels, acts without thinking, is spontaneous, mean, vulnerable, spunky, craves love and is generally one of the most entertaining characters in TV land.
Stefan Salvatore (Vampire Diaries TV show not the book) – He was the good brother: noble, brave, in love with a human girl, cleaning up after his bad older brother’s messes. Then he went psycho. I miss the old Stefan.
Damon Salvatore (Vampire Diaries TV show) – Conniving, sexy, dark, violent, fun to hang out. In the end more reliable than his baby brother perhaps? Damon is entertaining as hell.
Klaus Mikaelson– He’s got a real British accent, he’s unscrupulous, ruthless and cruel. I didn’t have much time for him at the start, viewing him as nothing more than an evil bastard. He killed Jenna and Elena, and turned Stefan back into a ripper. It didn’t seem like he could be anything other than monster. Then Caroline came along.

I’ve got round two coming up next week which features Dracula and a few of his nocturnal friends. Who is your favourite vampire of all time? Or do you despise these creatures of the night in all their various forms and wish they’d retire to their coffins?

Emma, you’ve brought me back into the world of vampires with your passion and awesome stories! While I’m a huge fan of smart-mouthed, hottie Damon, I’d say my favorite of all time is Brad PItt’s Louis in Interview With a Vampire. He was so sweet and tortured…
Aw, thanks Jen. I adore Louis. He and Lestat are coming up in round 2.
Reblogged this on IndieWritersReview and commented:
My daughter and I are now watching Buffy on Netflix and coming towards the end of season 2. We just finished up the episode when the soulless Angel killed the Gypsy computer teacher Miss Calender! OMG! We were heartbroken for Buffy and her pals…especially since I was a heartcore Bangle(Buffy and Angel ) from the beginning! So when seeing this great post by the fantabulous Emma Meade I had to share!:O)
Thanks for reblogging, Michelle. That episode with Jenny is one of the most frightening episodes, one of the best of the whole 7 seasons. My friend Laura is Bangle too! Enjoy the next 5 seasons.

I love that this wasn’t all about the boys. Those tough girls are definitely note worthy. It’s hard to say who my favorite is. They all have their time and place. Like you, I didn’t care for Klaus when he first came on the scene. Now I think he’s one of the more interesting characters – rich in layers. I, too, adore Spike.
I had to include the girls. I’d love to go to a Buffy convention to see James Marsters in person. He seems like a lovely guy.
I remember seeing something a few years back. They were going to be rather close. I wanted to go and get my picture with him. My husband looked at the price and the hand went up. No way in hell. Personally, I think he’s jealous. 😉 Have you seen him in the Torchwood episodes – kissing Jack Harkness?.:O
I’ve never seen Torchwood. I’ll have to tune in to see that!
I’m so with you on Spike and Damon. I like Damon in the books, too. And you already know how I felt about Stefan after he went psycho. There was no coming back from that for me.
I can’t remember the books very well, maybe it’s time for a re-read. Stefan’s never going to be the same for me again. 😦
I think you already know my answer to this one. 😉
This was a really fun idea for a post and I love all your choices, and I’m proud to say I know each and everyone of these characters! Does that make me eligible for some kind of vampire club? 😛
You can be Treasurer. 🙂 Who else can we get to join our club?
Showing my age, but I’m still gone on Nick Knight when he was played by Rick Springfield in the late 80’s movie. Definitely my fave vamp, although Carlyle in Twilight gave me a whole new appreciation for the modern day vampire! 🙂
I do vaguely remember him, Mae – no, actually I think I’m thinking of the TV show. If I ever see a boxset of Forever Knight around, it’s mine! Yes, Carlyle is lovely.
The tv show was good too. Just hated the way it ended!
Angel and Damon all the way. Yes, Angel said Buffy was the only one for him but alas, he could see that it was not to be and he did the right thing for Buffy! What a sweet, fabulous vampire!!!! 😀 And the whole Cordelia matter? Yes I choose to ignore this, the writers made him do it! 😀 Love Damon too….Spike yes but where’s Drusilla, Miss Meade?! Drusilla rocked! She stirred trouble for Buffy in Lie To Me, and killed Kendra! She ended up with a chaos demon! Spike:”a CHAOS DEMON!!” Drusilla has to be there!
Angel dumped Buffy right before the prom – that makes him an asshole in my book. 😉 I often choose to ignore endings of books and tv shows when I don’t like them. I pretend in my head that the characters went on to better things! Drusilla is coming up in round 2, Ms. Cotter, as is David from The Lost Boys.
Ooh and Jason Patric & Kiefer Sutherland in The Lost Boys! 😀
Spike. I always think of him as a Billy Idol vampire! My fav too!
Quite a diverse cast of vamps up there Emma.
Yep, Spike all the way. Thanks for weighing in, Laura.
I love vampires. LOVE. I have ever since I was a kid and watched Dark Shadows with my Grandma every day after school. My favorite of all you listed here has to be Spike.
One no one ever seems to mention is Mick St. John from the short-lived series “Moonlight”. I don’t know why that show didn’t make it. Mick is my favorite vampire EVER. I think part of the reason the show didn’t make it is because football overtime kept pushing the show later and later. Because, surely, it couldn’t be that people didn’t love MICK. 🙂
I know you love vamps, Lauralynn. 🙂 I haven’t seen Dark Shadows but I caught some of the film with Johnny Depp recently.
I totally forgot about Mick St. John – I’ll add him in round two, promise!
Once upon a time I’d have said that my favorite vamp was Angel with a little Spike on the side…until I met Mick St John and Josef Kostan from Moonlight. I also loved Julian Luna and Cash from an oldie series called Kindred: The Embraced. That was an awesome series. Of the Twilight folk? I think I liked Jasper best…followed by Emmitt. Of the female vamps…Alice is my fave.
There are a lot of Mick St John fans out there. Oh Josef, he was charming – I liked him a lot. Oops, totally forgot about Kindred: The Embraced. Thanks for reminding me, Kitt.
My pleasure. Those guys on there had that whole dark, sexy thing down to an artform. 😉
Damon tops this list for me. Caroline is definitely a better vampire and I would’ve added Alice Cullen. She might be small but she’s fast and tough in her own way. You go Kitt!
I think Damon tops a lot of women’s lists. 🙂 Yeah, I forgot about Alice. She is a tough cookie.
Hooray for team Alice! 😀
I’d have to go with Damon as my all time fave. Powerful, dark, charming, YUM 🙂
Dark and charming – a sexy combination.
Alice Cullen wins my vote, mmmmmmm dreamy!
She’s quite a vampire, Hubbard. Maybe if you ask her nicely, she’ll bite you.
AWESOME!
🙂
I cant believe I forgot mick st john, LOVED him and the moonlight series so much!!
You adored that show Laura. Definitely on the Gone Too Soon TV list.
Yes, I do agree that Angel’s timing was at its worst just before the prom, asshole for timing, but ultimately did the right thing! 😀 And he did come back to the prom just in time for Wild Horses looking mighty fine in a tux! 😀
I suppose he did do the right thing. But then when he became human he threw it all away like and rewound the day. Hmm. He did look mighty good in that tux!
Oh how I love Vampires-always have since the time of Buffy an Angel! Gah.. I thought they were the best lookin men around (and still pretty much do lol) I’m also a lover of Eric off of True Blood … that man is amazing! Great post!
I’ve loved them since I watched The Lost Boys as a kid, maybe even before that, and they were quite evil in that film. 🙂 We all love Eric Northman.
Spike is my all time fave! I also love Caroline and Damon, but Klaus is so interesting, I’m going to have to watch his new show. I’m also an Alice and Jasper fan from Twilight. But lately, I love Pam and Eric off of True Blood. Pam is such a badass. Thanks for the post. So fun to remember all the great vamps.
Jasper and Alice are a great vampire couple. Pam and Eric are up in round 2! Thanks for casting your votes, Trish.
I do miss a lot of shows/movies! Sad. There’s just no time. Thank goodness I at least recognise some names! Jasper is cool.
Ha ha. Jasper is great.

Klaus and Damon — hubba, dribble, swoon. I never got what peps saw in Stephan.. he’s weak and whiny. Damon knows his own mind and can control his urges, yet his heart is consistent and unreserved. I also fell for Edward (all the Cullens) so the anti-sparkle outcry annoys me. They can all kick serious but when its required. X

Klaus grew on me a lot the past season. And Damon – the original bad boy. How can we not be mad about him?
About the Cullens, you’re so right. They’re great fighters.
